28 new biodiesel pumps open in Iowa, hydrogen comes to Chicago

The Kum & Go convenience story chain has added biodiesel to 28 Iowa Stations. It's only B2, but it's available now. The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) thinks this is just peachy, and IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw called the move "a major commitment to biodiesel in Iowa."

"Today's announcement dramatically increases the retail biodiesel options for Iowa consumers. Coupled with their leading effort on E85 (85 percent ethanol-blended gasoline), Kum & Go's commitment to renewable fuels is second to none. I think Iowans will sit up and take notice," he said.

Kum & Go also sells E85 at five stores.

Meanwhile, over near the Chicago, at the Gas Technology Institute (GTI), a hydrogen pump opened up today. GTI's pump can make hydrogen from natural gas, ethanol, or electricity and water, H2 Daily says. Which process is used to make the hydrogen in the tank is not specified. Kind of surprisingly, it's open to the public. Read more here.
