One of three new micro-car concepts that Chevrolet is debuting at the New York Auto Show is the Chevrolet Groove. Chevy describes it as 'FUNKASTALGIA', combining a funky modern look with retro attributes like and upright windshield and fender flares like the HHR. The Groove features a prominent twin port grille similar to modern Chevy's like the trucks and the new 2008 Malibu. The 17 inch rear wheels are pushed out the back corners to maximize the appearance of size even on this tiny vehicle. The prominent hood and headlights pulled back over the fenders add to the appearance of length. Propulsion for the Groove comes from a 1.0L diesel engine. The press release is after the jump.

CHEVROLET GROOVE: PURE 'FUNKASTALGIA'
NEW YORK – Inspired by a "half-soldier, half-modern" military helmet, the Chevrolet Groove concept is contemporary and funky, but evokes classic Chevrolet heritage design cues like an upright windshield and prominent fender flares that give the Groove a strong, sturdy stance reminiscent of a retro hot rod.
Groove lead exterior designer Jawook Koo, of the GM Design Center in Inchon , South Korea , was seeking a mini design that was big on presence.
"I wanted to get out of the mini vehicles stereotype that is characterized by a weak, insecure and 'cute' appearance, so that consumers can feel safe just by looking at the vehicle," said Koo.
The Groove's design conveys anything but weakness. The striking matte Lunar Quartz exterior finish contrasts with the strategic use of satin silver exterior chrome details. Big, five-spoke 17-inch wheels pushed all the way to the rear give the impression of a vehicle that's much longer than it is, thanks to the short-but-pronounced hood and long, flat cabin, a design that provides for a roomy interior. Contrasting Vertigo brake calipers bring additional attention to the big wheels.
The front overhang includes open-air vents that are integrated into the front LED fog lamps, and the elongated front headlamps further "lengthen" the vehicle.
Getting this front-wheel-drive concept in the Groove is a highly efficient, 1-liter diesel engine.

Surprisingly good looking subcompact. I wonder what size it is. If it could replace the fugly Matiz in the european Chevy lineup, it would sell for sure.
What are the specs on the 1.0 diesel?

According to the Voting website mentioned in a previous article, this car is in the lead. With a diesel engine, the most room, and a decent looking face, (my opinion), I think this will be the best received of the 3.

Dual exhaust on a 1.0 liter engine? Save the money on that and provide an HD radio instead.

Ahh...I see we have some Neanderthals among us from the negative comments above.
Of the three I like this one the best. I like it's Scion xBish looks. The benefit is it's space efficiency. The upright windshield won't be good for fuel economy but will offer excellent visibility.

I am a JEEP lover, but have always loved Chevy's as well. Jeep has dissapointed me for years by not coming out with several vehicles for this market. I do commend them on the Patriot, except were is the DIESEL option. This car (Groove) is not my cup of tea, but I DO commend Chevy for creating it. Now produce it! It is the best looking of the three, looks like it will have usable interior space, should be priced right, and hell the no brainer a small diesel (turbo hopefully) with this size a car will probably give 50mpg in the city. Yeah, remember, this is aimed to city slickers driving to work. If jeep does'nt release the diesel version of the Grand or the patriot. I just may have one of these in my garage in a couple years. Way to go CHEVY!

Well you can not find specs on Groove`s diesel because they `re hidden and unpoblished. This is elementary,dr.Watson:)))But if a regular gas engine provide 60-70hp/l(Nissan Versa`s 1.8l 122hp),then a diesel one always less. Thus expect 60-70 hp from the Groove.Or if they don`t bluff about "high efficiensy" - 80-90 at the best. Not impresive for US driving habits, but if 50 miles per gallon, and the price around $15K...at the perspective of $4-5/gal fuel cost it looks very and very attractive.

Two of these cars are awesome. I would definitely purchase either the Chevy Beat (Black) or the Chevy Beat (Green). I agree with comment #1. I am also looking at going from a Pontiac Aztek to a smaller waagon futuristic vehicle that is better on gas. Curious about the how the inside looks. These are sharp looking cars! The Trax looks feminine.

These cars are ugly, with a capital ugh! These designers are like the emperor. Won't someone tell them they have no clothes. And by the way, did I mention these cars are ugly!
Ugh! An exclamation expressive of disgust, horror, or recoil. Its utterance is usually accompanied by a shudder.
From the 1913 Webster's Dictionary.
