Barenaked Ladies set high standards for eco-celebrities

Filed under: Biodiesel, Etc., Green Culture, Hybrid, Carbon Offset

With biofuel in their busses and an informational eco-village set up at their concerts, the Barenaked Ladies are sincere about their environmental efforts. Their green reputation is so celebrated (that's band member Steve Page in his Prius) that fans will bring home the band's recyclables and compost materials when pickup services aren't available. The group runs B20 in their tour buses, although admitting B99 would be preferred if the buses were were properly equipped.

Helping spread the green message is Reverb, a company we've mentioned before. Reverb makes sure biofuel suppliers and recyclers are available. One possible problem concerns the cold climate at many of the concert sites. Cold weather and biodiesel fuel don't mix, but Reverb is confident a non-profit group called Zerofootprint will make sure the correct biodisel fuel is available for the busses and generators.

The eco-village not only offers green information but sells carbon offsets to help neutralize the fans driving to the concerts. Other sources to used for carbon offset include NativeEnergy and Bullfrog Power.
