BMW moves up diesel plans to start with the X5

When BMW initially announced plans to bring clean diesel engines to the US market they indicated that the 5-series would be the first installation late in 2008. Now Winding Road is reporting that after speaking to some BMW reps at an event in Phoenix, the company is moving up their plans. Instead of the 5-series sedans, the first US BMW diesel of the modern era will be the X5 in mid-2008. They are estimating a price of around $47,000 for the 3.0L inline 6 diesel X5 and fuel economy ratings of 21/33 city highway.
