Freightliner will show off new diesel hybrid technology next month
Filed under: Diesel, Hybrid, MPG, DaimlerChrysler

A medium-duty walk-in van with diesel-electric hybrid technology will be displayed and available for first drives in the next couple months. The new van chassis from Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. was developed along with Eaton and Detroit Diesel. Its debut comes at the Technology and Maintenance Council show in Tampa on Feb. 6. Rides will be offered at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis in early March. The hybrid vans are built on Freightliner's MT-45 chassis. Tests show a 50 percent improvement in fuel economy.

Suddenly it is obvious...the greatest opportunity for reducing consumption is to address the vehicles that drive the most and get the worst economy.
Companies that own commercial vehicles are also the most focused on saving $.
This is an excellent idea.

Does anyone have any more information about the "advanced technology batteries" these use? NiMH or Li-ion? Whose technology are they using?
