The top 70 "in" products, services and trends that will help to define 2007

Trendspotters around the world, take note of the 70 "in" products, services and trends that will define 2007 according to JWT, the largest advertising agency in the U.S. and fourth largest in the world. Says Marian Salsman, ececutive vice president and chielf maketing officer for JWT, "Trends are illustrated by the products and services that exemplify them. By examining what resonates with consumers, we can identify the larger patterns that will shape our lives in the years to come."
Not all of the top trends identified here matter to our readers, but I have extrapolated the following from the list, just 'cause I'm cool like that.
- Sustainable construction\green buildings
- hydrogen fuel cells
- veggie buses (school buses that run on biodesiel)
- environmental causes
- companies "going green"
- microgeneration (generating one's own energy)
- energy saving light bulbs
- Al Gore, the environmentalist (as opposed to the politician, I surmise)
- RSS Feeds -- not green, but appropriate to our readers nonetheless
So, there you go. Now I can tell everyone that I know that I am indeed "trendy", and so can you.

Looks like the list is based more on hype more than anything else. Skype making number one shows whoever is writing the list is a few years behind the times. Maybe the Tesla Roadster/EVs will make their 2010 list.

I see Hydrogen Fuel Cells are #2 on the list. People think this is a “green” technology. Spilled bio-diesel (or electricity for that matter) is less toxic to the environment than salt or sugar.
According to this article on ozone-depletion.com, “Hydrogen may be considered to be one of the MOST DESTRUCTIVE GASSES to escape into the atmosphere. It will destroy ozone in an irreversible process, reduce oxygen levels and produce water vapor in the stratosphere.” http://www.ozone-depletion.com/. Hydrogen is a very small molecule, which means that it escapes easily. HUMM… Millions of tanks of this stuff leaking their cargo directly into the atmosphere. You can’t clean that up like an oil spill. You thought fossil fuels were bad.

Tim, thanks for posting the link about Hydrogen depleting the ozone. I've always been slighlty wary of Hydrogen as a green technology since currently the easiest way to get hydrogen is from fossil fuels. The link will provide some interesting reading and though.

Consider a large supply of highly explosive gas such as LNG, H2 etc. parked next to a juicy target. I'm sure terrorists have. A container ship of this stuff has about the same energy as 55 Hiroshima type nuclear bombs. Are they (including Al “Green” Gore) worried? YOU BET! http://www.timrileylaw.com/LNG.htm
