SEMA offers early look at new 4.2-liter Cummins diesel
Cummins has announced it will supply 4.2-liter V6 and 5.6-liter clean diesel engines to DaimlerChrysler for light-duty vehicles. We can get an early look at the potential of such deal at SEMA next week when Jeep shows off a custom Wrangler Unlimited from the Mopar Skunkwerkes group. This teaser email I received says it's powered by a 4.2-liter diesel. Code named 50 JK, the hardtop Jeep features custom bumpers, 4-inch lift, 35-inch tires, carbon-fiber hood, Dana 44 axles front and rear, GPS and full saddle leather. This one's sure to be "Trail Rated." All totaled, Chrysler will have 65 vehicles on display at SEMA. Wonder how many will be boasting fuel efficiency?

Great news...hopefully one or both of these engines will find their way into the Ram 1500, Durango, and even possible the Dakota. Lets get them installed NOW!!!

I hope that DC is looking at putting this engine into the new JK for public usage. That V6 they put into it is alright, but nothing would beat the diesel's stump-pulling-power!

Minivan engine in a Jeep is dismal torment after the I-6! Leather and GPS for plodding through mud? It IS still a Jeep, right? Would manual 6 handle the torque? DC should run hard with this.

I'd settle for four wheel drive in the wrangler. Where is the NVG242 transfer case? of the electric shift version that was used in the durango (although that one omitted the pure rear drive mode-can't do donuts, damn)
How about the new 4.0V6 and a modern transmission.

Didn't see the Cummins 4.2L in the wrangler unlimited in any other news articles. Just the MB 3.0L crd.
Any new info, links, or was this a autobloggreen miss info?

Yes we will buy the Diesel version of the new wrangler...I'm going to try to figure out how to import one here...It is a bummer we have to wait...

I just bought a Sahara Unlimited. I had hoped to get a diesel, but had to replace my JGC that a deer totaled. Its a great vehicle though. All it needs is a diesel! Oh well, maybe I can take the plunge and trade the JK in for a new one in a few years. Might take that long to get into a production vehicle anyway. Any performance specs?

A diesel in the Wrangler is so obvious. Cure that mpg problem and ALSO give us an engine we can be proud of. You took away LOW-SPEED torque with the v6 mini-van engine. Give it back with a diesel. A Cummins would be even better. DC, do you not realize how popular this would be?

The Wrangler Unlimited would be my first Jeep purchase ever and my first American car purchase in more than a decade. However, I won't take the plunge until the MPG is improved by either a Diesel or . . .
