Honda Diesels for Odyssey and Acura MDX

This is a follow-up to the earlier announcement from Honda about the diesel engines for the U.S. market. The Financial Express reports the vehicles that will be offered in the U.S. with the proposed diesel engine are the Honda Odyssey minivan and Acura MDX SUV. The vehicles will also be offered in Japan. According to Honda president Takeo Fukui, there are no plans for hybrid systems for light trucks, and it is believed they will be more fuel efficient with diesel engines. The engines might also make their way into cars, if they prove popular in the light duty truck market. The same article mentions Nissan Motor Co is also considering diesel pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles.

Although I think of Honda as a world class engineering company, their NA management has shown repeatedly to be followers and not leaders of the market. As an example, they were way behind everyone else before they finally came out with a minivan, and now they're getting rid of their hot hatches to go with boring sedans just as the market is swinging back towards hot hatches and away from sedans. (The Fit is a poor competitor to the likes of the Mazda3 and VW GTI.) I'm disappointed that they seem to be doing the exact same thing with diesel engines for small cars. If they need any proof that small cars with a good diesel engine would sell here in the NA market, all they have to do is look at VW.
While I don't doubt that Honda NA is a very sucessful company, they need to be more nimble on their feet like Mazda or risk loosing the hearts and minds of the younger generation of car buyers.

Honda is doing its best to change the image of its luxury arm from being nice but boring to hot and hi-tech. The car will be placed with 300-hp V-6 and a very efficient Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).
This is another exciting addition to appeling crossovers in the market.

What month and year will the Acura MDX diesel V6 be in American showrooms? All the blogs say "2009-the Odyssey and MDX will have Diesel's motors"...does that mean Fall 2008?
